This “Overload”

Admittedly, this breakfast sandwich was “Overload.” Everything about it was “too much.” A turkey, bacon, egg & cheese bagel toaster with a kickin homemade remoulade and fresh tomato slices. Technically it was prepared almost to perfection. I’m pretty sure Master Chef Anthony Bourdain himself gave the chef’s kiss to that egg.
But alas, the ingredients came together too rich and too messy and too much.
Don’t get me wrong, I ate the whole thing. Gluttony and all. And it was *exactly* what I needed on this hair-of-the-dog kind of Thursday morning.
I didn’t wake in need of a hangover cure; in fact, I didn’t wake. I hadn’t slept.
5 AM came without a wink. And sleepless long nights call for dense, grease-loaded breakfasts.
So I took pleasure in one of the few tasks I can sometimes find enjoyment: cooking. As someone who is more of a jack-of-all, it’s nice doing something that I’m really good at, even when it’s hard.

Reflecting on how I might improve this sandwich if I were to make it again…First, the egg in its luscious richness is the “overload.” It’s the accessory Coco Chanel said to leave at the house.
It’s beautiful but out of place here.
But this morning, I needed it ALL—even the extra egg-o.
Insomnia is wiping me out 😵💫
